What is behind the stories of zoos?
Zoos have been enjoyed by an uncountable number of people over the millennia. However, there is a dark past to zoos that involves harsh conditions and cruelty towards animals--some especially despicable zoos have been known to whip animals, despite this practice being known as cruel and inhumane.
This has led some to argue that animals deserve rights, just as people do. They are no different than people--living creatures that evolved on Earth and can experience pain and suffering, as well as happiness and excitement. Thus, we ought to change their treatment now, before future generations look back on us in contempt and ask, why didn't they do anything?
