Living while dying

Losing our home planet...
Living while dying

“Mayday! Mayday! We’re going down! Initiating emergency procedures!” A blinding splash of bursting red and orange fills the sky, making a cacophonous symphony. While pilots may quote this speech only in severe calamity, us humans are reciting these lines daily due to the ultimate issue we are facing: climate crisis.

Doubtlessly, climate crisis is the most monstrous being in the universe and has already conjured a profound impact on our lives, but before delving into the horrors residing within the issue, understanding what the climate is would be essential. Climate describes the long-term weather of a particular area. The essence of a healthy climate would be a place of decent temperature, steady rain, and breathing winds. Of course, such a paradise would only exist in heaven so we are forced to descend back to Earth, where crashing tsunamis, blazing bushfires, and sweeping floods cover the planet in misery. Yes, climate crisis has come and its still, deathly hands are slowly closing in on our beloved planet.

As the climate crisis tightens its grip around us, it crystallises that it is beyond devastating. For instance, rising sea levels, which submerge low-lying land, forms environmental refugees. Additionally, melting glaciers emit CO2 which floats into Earth's atmosphere, trapping the Sun's heat and causing the Earth to warm. As a result, sea levels rise excruciatingly. Eventually, the world - and this is a phenomenon we have already seen with the Doomsday Vault, a vault storing seeds donated from worldwide to use in an emergency - will become flooded. Therefore, this vicious cycle/snowball effect will contribute to a food crisis. Unfortunately, solving the climate crisis is easier said than done.

This horrendous upheaval stands right before you. And what do most of us do? Nothing but being happy while dying: a sign signaling ignorance has taken its toll. Greenwashing - a misleadingness of something to be believed as eco-friendly - and global inharmony are a complication. Cost is another obstacle: the cost to mitigate the climate crisis measures $73 trillion. Doesn’t resolving the climate crisis seem nigh impossible?

Facing the truth is difficult, but it is obligatory to face reality: the climate crisis is nearing and its impact on the planet is calamitous. Pivoting out of this catastrophe is vital for our survival. In order to maintain our existence, education and action are mandatory. What you can do for Mother Earth is to conserve energy. Meanwhile, the government can enact laws such as banning plastic, increasing subsidies, and carbon tax. However, we left ourselves less time to prepare for the final turn. Earth is at a pointy end and we humans are left to pilot the plane.
